LO5 Internet

This topic is very interesting for me because I can know many things with internet. What is internet? First we need to know what is internet first. Internet is a largest network in the world that connects people/organization all over the world. It also global system interconnected networks that uses the standard internet protocol to serve billions of users. With internet we can connect with all people all around the world without board. Internet use to find general information or access Information. We can use internet to send (upload) or receive (download) files between computers. We also can Share resources, to correspond or meet with people and shop for product and services with using internet.

History of internet started from 1960 U.S Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) began to study ways to interconnect network in various kinds. After that, have “ARPANET” from Advanced Research Project Agency Network (1969). When 1986 U.S National Science Foundation (NSF) initiated the development of National Science Foundation Network (NSFNET) which became major component of INTERNET.  From year 1986until now 21^st century we call it internet

Internets nowadays, provided or service us many things for example first are e-mail. E-mail also as known as electronic mail. It allowed messages to be exchanged from computer to computer. Email program used to create, send, receive, forward, store, print and delete email. Examples of e-mail

Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, MSN

Second thing is web. What is web? Web it was created by Tim Berners Lee. It contains hypertext links or highlighted keywords and images that lead to related information.A collection of linked Web pages that has a common theme or focus is called a Web site. Website is the collection of documents. Document is the web page. WEB: Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML). Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is the main markup language for creating web pages and other information that can be displayed in a web browser. To allow Web browser software to read them, the text must be formatted according to a standard. You can access to the Internet is through an Internet service provider (ISP), which can be a large company such as America Online or MSN, or any of hundreds of smaller ISPs throughout the country. You are offered unlimited access for a fixed rate per month. Is a software program that is used to view web page. Examples of Web browser

Web servers are computers that deliver (serves up) Web pages. Every Web server has an IP address and possibly a domain name. While web client is end user PC

Third is transfer protocol. The transfer protocol is the set of rules/ software that the computers use to move files from one computer to another on the Internet. The most common transfer protocol used on the Internet is the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and FTP for example web browser works by using a protocol called Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) to request a specially encoded text document from server.

Fourth is chat room. Chat is typed of conversation between people. People can communicate with other people all around the world. It also channel/medium/location on Internet that allow people to chat with each other. Example chat room is

•      AOL Chat Room

Fifth is VOIP. VOIP is Voice Over Internet Protocol or “Internet Telephony”. It use internet to make phone call/video call. This can allow users to speak  to other user over internet. Example VOIP is Examples:

•      Skype

•      Yahoo Voice

•      Windows Live call

•      NetMeeting

The last one is News groups. It is electronic bulletin board that conducts discussions about specific topic/subject. It also includes newsreader (program use to access newsgroup like Google Talk, Google Group)
